Commemorative Torch Relay Kicks Off Ten-Day Olympic Heritage Celebration - B-Roll Package
STORY SUMMARY: (North Lake Tahoe, CA. – January 12, 2010) – The North Lake Tahoe Olympic Heritage Celebration got underway on Friday, January 8th with a Commemorative Torch Relay from Sugar Pine Point State Park, on Tahoe's West Shore, to Squaw Valley USA.

North Lake Tahoe's Olympic Heritage Celebration, underway January 8-17,
commemorates the 50th anniversary of the 1960 VIII Olympic Winter Games
held in Squaw Valley and Tahoma, in North Lake Tahoe. The ten-day series
of events inlcudes races, historic tours and reenactments, demonstrations,
expos, parties, and more.

Torch Relay - January 8th.
In an 'Olympic Style' torch relay, a replica of the 1960 Olympic Torch,
was carried via foot, snowmobile, alpine skis, nordic skis, car, hand-crank
cycle, and chairlift, ran from Sugar Pine Point State Park (site of
the 1960 Olympic Nordic events) up Lake Tahoe's West Shore through Tahoe
City, past Alpine Meadows, and in to Squaw Valley.
The torch was carried by several past Olympians and local figures, including Tamara McKinney, Starr Walton, Babette Hausein, Greg Jones, Bill Hudson, Jeff Hamilton, Jonny Moseley, and others.
The Olympic flame was lit at the original 1960 Tower of Nations at the base of Squaw Valley, and also at an opening ceremony in the Village at Squaw Valley.
