SUPPORTING COPY: North Lake Tahoe might be best known as a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, but the destination also receives high marks from travelers who visit the region specifically to attend its many and varied special events.

Tahoe City celebrates summer with the Heart & Solstice Festival, June 18 through June 21, with a car show, free live music on the beach, kayak paddlefest and Sip & Shop Wine Walk all in downtown Tahoe City. Considered the premier wooden boat show of North America, North Lake Tahoe’s popular Concours d’Elegance is scheduled for June 19-21 when classic woodies will be on display and a host of boating enthusiasts festivities take place at the Sierra Boat Company in Carnelian Bay.

Cycling action returns to Truckee with the Tour de Nez June 18 when the city's historic downtown will be shut down as professional riders race through the streets. Attendees can burn some of their own rubber in the race's clunker classic. The final stage moves to the Village at Northstar June 20, up close and personal for spectators, when cyclists will have one last chance to battle it out for prizes.

Kings Beach offers up the best in organic produce and goods every Tuesday when area farmers put their best up for sale at the Kings Beach State Recreation Area. On Thursdays, visitors can rock out to free, live music on the beach. Squaw Valley is transformed into a scenic outdoor art gallery June 20-21 at the 5th Annual Squaw Valley Fine Arts and Crafts Festival with photography, watercolor and sculpture for sale.

The experts at the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center teach us how to live green in Tahoe with a family-geared workshop July 2 in Incline Village. Attendees learn about defensible space, low-impact recreation and bear awareness while enjoying live music and an ice cream social. Tours of the demonstration garden are also available.
